Black & Brown individual & shared Experiences

Belonging to communities in which mental health and wellness routines can be considered “weak” or a “luxury” can place a lot of pressure on you. Unfortunately, this appears to be a common theme regardless of the ethnic community you belong to. There is nothing like connecting with clients on the shared experiences that tie into life within communities of color (the good, the bad, and the complicated).

It’s not uncommon for our communities to experience trauma related to racism, discrimination, and historical oppression at some point in life. Understanding the importance of cultural background, values, and beliefs on quality of life and, as a by-product, mental health is a shared and sacred experience within communities and an invaluable quality for someone partnering in your care.
